The Marietta College women’s soccer team rewrote its record book on Saturday afternoon, routing Muskingum University 10-1 in Ohio Athletic Conference action at Marietta Field. The 10 goals set a new school record for a single match, surpassing the previous mark of nine set against Waynesburg in 1995.

Jaylyn Thornton matched a program record with five goals, tying the single-match mark established by Anne Eadie in 1999. Jailynn Woodruff set a new Marietta single-game record with four assists, and the Pioneers established a new team record with six assists in the match.

The win improved Marietta to 6-8-2 overall and 3-3-0 in conference play, while Muskingum fell to 1-12-1 overall and 0-6 in the OAC. More importantly for the Pioneers, the result strengthened their position in the race for their first Ohio Athletic Conference Tournament appearance since 2003.

“More program records set,” said Marietta head coach Zack Votra. “An amazing way to celebrate our seniors.” The Pioneers honored all nine of their seniors before the match in a pre-game ceremony at Marietta Field.

The nine seniors recognized were Francesca Agliolo, Sarah Legg, Tati Grigoriyan, Delilah Vazquez, Myah Byers, Kira Korsak, Dilyn Hunley, Emily McCollough and Carly Lutz, each celebrated for their careers and contributions to the program.

A record-setting senior day gives Marietta momentum heading into the final week of the regular season, with a tournament berth now within reach for the first time in more than two decades. The Pioneers will look to carry Saturday’s attacking form into their closing fixtures.

Muskingum, still searching for its first conference win, will try to regroup after a difficult afternoon in Marietta. For the home crowd at Marietta Field, though, Saturday was a celebration on every level — nine seniors honored, three program records broken and a 10-goal performance that will stand in the record book for years.

The outburst was a sharp contrast to Marietta’s previous outing, a hard-fought 1-0 loss at Capital in which the Pioneers managed only seven shots and goalkeeper Francesca Agliolo kept the match scoreless into the 77th minute with seven saves. On Saturday, that same defensive group had a far quieter afternoon as the attack controlled the match from the opening minutes.
