Bellevue opened its Ohio high school football playoff run in emphatic fashion Friday night, Oct. 30, shutting out Highland 48-0 in a Division IV, Region 14 first-round game.
The Redmen (8-3) left no doubt against the 11th-seeded Hornets (4-7), posting the shutout at home to advance to the regional quarterfinals. The final score was reported in the statewide playoff scoreboards published by The Columbus Dispatch and the Mansfield News Journal.
Bellevue entered the postseason as the No. 6 seed in Region 14, and Friday’s result was one of the most lopsided of the opening round anywhere in the region — a 48-point win with no points allowed.
The Marion Star’s Week 11 roundup reported that Bellevue (8-3) will now play at No. 3 seed Sandusky Perkins at 7 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 6, in the regional quarterfinals.
That matchup sets up a short trip and a familiar Sandusky Bay area opponent for the Redmen, who will need the same defensive form they showed against Highland when they face a Perkins team that earned a first-round bye as one of the region’s top seeds.
Highland’s season ends at 4-7 with the loss. The Hornets were one of three Marion-area teams whose seasons ended in Week 11, according to the Marion Star.
For Bellevue, a railroad town with a long football tradition, a 48-0 playoff opener is the kind of start that builds November momentum — one win down, with the regional quarterfinal at Perkins next.
What happens next: Bellevue travels to Sandusky Perkins for a Division IV, Region 14 quarterfinal on Friday, Nov. 6, with kickoff at 7 p.m.
