WHITEHOUSE, Ohio — Anthony Wayne piled up 501 yards of offense Friday night, Oct. 30, and rolled past Toledo Start 42-21 in a Division II, Region 6 first-round playoff game, according to Black Swamp Football’s playoff recap.
Quarterback Porter Brungard powered the Generals’ attack, completing 31 of 40 passes for 353 yards and five touchdowns, Black Swamp Football reported. Cam Miller was his top target, catching seven passes for 146 yards and three touchdowns.
Jaythan Voltz added 118 yards rushing and one score for Anthony Wayne, which held Start to just 128 total yards on the night, according to Black Swamp Football. The Spartans finished their season at 6-5.
The win improves Anthony Wayne to 7-4 and sends the Generals on the road in the second round. Anthony Wayne will play at No. 4 seed North Ridgeville (9-1) on Friday, Nov. 6, Black Swamp Football reported.
The Generals’ 501-yard night was one of the biggest offensive outputs by a northwest Ohio team in the opening round, built almost entirely through the air as Brungard spread his five touchdown passes across the Start defense.
Start’s season ends in the first round after a 6-5 campaign. For Anthony Wayne, the trip to North Ridgeville offers a step up in competition — the Rangers earned a top-four seed and a first-round bye.
Kickoff for the regional quarterfinal at North Ridgeville is set for Friday, Nov. 6. The winner advances to the Region 6 semifinal the following week as the road to the state finals in Canton continues.
