Ohio University’s football team now owns the longest active home winning streak in the Football Bowl Subdivision, at 17 straight victories at Frank Solich Field at Peden Stadium in Athens, The Columbus Dispatch reported on Oct. 27.
The Bobcats inherited the top spot as a side effect of Ohio State’s 19-15 victory over Indiana, The Columbus Dispatch reported. Indiana had owned a 19-game home winning streak dating to its Aug. 31, 2024 season opener against Florida Atlantic in head coach Curt Cignetti’s first season, according to The Columbus Dispatch.
Since Ohio named the Peden Stadium field for longtime coach Frank Solich in 2022, the Bobcats have won 26 of 27 home games, The Columbus Dispatch reported. After a loss to Miami on Oct. 28, 2023, Ohio beat Central Michigan 34-20 in Athens two weeks later, starting the current 17-game streak, according to The Columbus Dispatch.
Ohio sits atop the Mid-American Conference at 6-2 overall and 4-0 in conference play, with its only losses on the road against nonconference opponents Nebraska and South Alabama, The Columbus Dispatch reported.
Head coach John Hauser, the former Bobcats defensive coordinator who took over as interim head coach last December and is now in his first season officially in the role, has Ohio allowing the third-fewest points per game in the conference at 21.6 while scoring the second-most at 29.6, The Columbus Dispatch reported. The Bobcats also average a conference-high 192.4 rushing yards per game, according to The Columbus Dispatch.
The streak is a point of pride in Athens, where Peden Stadium crowds have watched nearly three calendar years pass without a home defeat. The Columbus Dispatch noted the Bobcats remain well short of the historical record of 58 straight home wins set by Miami (Florida) from 1985 to 1994.
Ohio’s next home date will put the streak on the line in front of the Frank Solich Field crowd. Until then, the longest active home run in the FBS belongs to a Mid-American Conference program in southeast Ohio, as reported by The Columbus Dispatch.
For southeast Ohio fans, the streak has turned every home Saturday in Athens into an event, with students and alumni filling Peden Stadium along the Hocking River. The Dispatch’s account underscores how unusual the run is for a Group of Five program: home dominance at this length is usually the province of perennial playoff contenders, not a MAC school playing in one of the league’s most intimate stadiums.
