Wright State University’s home opener is already a sellout. The university announced Thursday, Oct. 22, that the Stars, Stripes and Flight Classic men’s basketball game against the Air Force Falcons on Monday, Nov. 2, at the Nutter Center has sold out, with less than two weeks to tip-off.

The game, supported by CareSource and The Big Hoopla, doubles as the home opener for the defending Horizon League champion Raiders and the start of the college basketball season in Dayton. Ticket holders will receive a free Vintage Rowdy T-shirt at the door, and the university said more details on pregame activities will be released next week.

“Fans have stepped up for both the Raiders and Falcons in an unprecedented show of support,” Wright State Athletics Director Brad Chandler said in the announcement. “We’ve hinted at a few surprises, but simply put, the Nutter Center will be the place to be for the opening night of college basketball.”

The matchup is built around the Dayton region’s military ties. The evening honors Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, the U.S. Air Force, veterans and active-duty service members, and it pairs the hometown Raiders with the Air Force Academy’s Falcons — a visiting team with a built-in local following in a community shaped by the base.

Wright State has reached the NCAA Tournament in two of the last five seasons, and the sellout extends the region’s claim as an epicenter of college basketball. The game also kicks off The Big Hoopla, the Dayton region’s basketball celebration building toward the return of the NCAA First Four to Dayton in March 2027.

A sellout for an opener against a service academy is a marker of how completely the Raiders have become a regional draw: the Nutter Center crowd will be there as much for the occasion — the tributes, the shirts, the start of a championship defense — as for the game itself. Fans without tickets are out of luck at the box office, since the university’s announcement is that the building is full.

Tip-off on Nov. 2 opens Wright State’s home schedule with the highest-profile nonconference visitor the calendar could offer this community: the Falcons, in a full house, on a night set aside to honor the people who serve at the base down the road.
