A Wood County grand jury has indicted a Toledo man accused of attacking two coworkers at the Toledo Molding and Die plant on East Gypsy Lane Road in Bowling Green last month, according to Bowling Green police reports described by WTOL 11 and other Toledo-area outlets.
Johnathan McNeal, 34, of Toledo, was indicted Thursday, October 22 on one count of felonious assault, a second-degree felony, and one count of assault, a first-degree misdemeanor. An indictment is a formal accusation, not a finding of guilt, and McNeal is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
Police were called to the plant on Monday, September 14 after coworkers reported an altercation. Officers said McNeal had already left the building when they arrived. According to the police reports, a female coworker had tried to explain how McNeal should label his work, and witnesses told police he argued with her and then allegedly punched her in the throat. The two coworkers are not being named.
Witnesses told police that when a shift supervisor approached, McNeal picked the supervisor up and slammed him into a work table, a nearby machine and the ground, and continued hitting him while he was down. An officer who reviewed security camera footage described it as showing the supervisor being held upside down and his head striking a shelf and the concrete floor.
Officers found the supervisor lying beside a machine with blood around his head, according to the reports. He was taken to St. Vincent Medical Center in Toledo with serious injuries. His current condition has not been released. One witness told officers McNeal had worked at the factory for about two weeks.
Police sought warrants after the incident, and McNeal was arrested September 15. He was booked into the Wood County Justice Center, with bond set at $50,000, according to Bowling Green Municipal Court records cited in the reports.
With the grand jury indictment, the case now moves to Wood County Common Pleas Court. A next court date had not been scheduled in the reports, and whether McNeal has an attorney was not immediately confirmed. Public case records are maintained by the Wood County Clerk of Courts.
