UniverSoul Circus pitches its 70-foot tent at Historic Crew Stadium in Columbus this week, opening a run of 17 shows with its new production, “We All Belong,” according to The Columbus Dispatch.
The Atlanta-based troupe performs Oct. 29-30 and Nov. 4-6 at 7 p.m., Oct. 31 and Nov. 7 at noon, 3:30 and 7:30 p.m., and Nov. 1 and Nov. 8 in afternoon shows, The Columbus Dispatch reported. The Columbus run continues through Nov. 8 at the stadium on Black and Gold Boulevard.
“When you come to our show, you are dancing, singing, clapping, and laughing – there’s never a dull moment,” UniverSoul founder Cedric Walker told The Columbus Dispatch in 2017. “We connect with our audience in a way no other circus has or does,” Walker told The Columbus Dispatch.
Now in its 32nd year, UniverSoul blends elite acrobatics, stunts, music, choreography and storytelling, The Columbus Dispatch reported. Columbus on the Cheap, in its listing for the Columbus run, said the production celebrates the music and spirit of the Harlem Renaissance, Motown, Soul Train and hip hop, with performers from around the world.
Highlights listed for the show include flying motorcycles, an Ethiopian pole act, aerial performances and a roller-skating troupe, according to Columbus on the Cheap. The listing also names Double Vision, a hand-balancing duo from the Dominican Republic, a high-flying acrobatic act from Russia, and the returning Caribbean Street Carnival with 20-foot dancing puppets and stilt dancers.
Audience participation is a central part of the format, and guests may be invited to dance, sing or interact with performers during the show, according to the event listings. Fresh the Clownsss bring comedy to the big top, while motorcycle stunt artists perform flips and dives above the arena floor, Columbus on the Cheap reported.
For Columbus families, the run puts a week-plus of big-top performances in one venue through Nov. 8, with matinees on both weekends for younger audiences. Tickets and the full schedule are available through the circus and the stadium’s event listings.
