Two Cleveland men were shot and killed Sunday evening in the city’s Union-Miles neighborhood on the East Side, and police arrested a 25-year-old man within hours of the shooting, according to Cleveland police reports carried by local outlets. Officers were dispatched to the 4100 block of East 120th Street at about 6 p.m. on October 25 after reports of gunfire.
Officers found Christopher Williams, 34, in the street with multiple apparent gunshot wounds and provided first aid until Cleveland EMS arrived and took him to University Hospitals, where he later died. Demetrius Pride, 28, was found with gunshot wounds on the front porch of a residence in the same block and was pronounced dead at the scene by EMS personnel. The Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner identified both men as Cleveland residents.
Police said a 25-year-old man was taken into custody within hours of the killings, with assistance from the Summit County Sheriff’s Office and the Akron Police Department. Authorities have not publicly released the arrested man’s name, and no charging information had been announced as of early Tuesday.
Investigators are also reviewing a video that circulated on social media after the shooting. The footage, shared in an Instagram story, appears to show a man holding a firearm and speaking angrily near a person lying in a doorway. Police have not confirmed the identity of the person in the video or said how the shooting began, and they have released no information about a possible motive.
The shooting adds to a difficult stretch of gun violence on Cleveland’s East Side, and it comes just days after a separate fatal shooting of a Shaker Heights student in the nearby Buckeye-Shaker neighborhood — a different incident that prompted Shaker Heights schools to close on Tuesday. Police have not linked the two cases.
For Union-Miles residents, the immediate impact is a heavier police presence in the neighborhood and an open investigation that detectives say is still in its early stages. Officers remained in the area collecting evidence and speaking with neighbors who may have heard or seen the shooting.
What happens next will depend on the Cuyahoga County prosecutor’s review of the arrest and the evidence gathered at the scene. Police are asking anyone with information about the East 120th Street shooting to contact Cleveland homicide detectives. NewsForce247 will update this story as officials release the suspect’s name and formal charges.
