Ohio gets a bright, quiet Sunday once the early fog clears, according to the National Weather Service. The only alert in the state this morning is a Special Weather Statement from the National Weather Service in Northern Indiana for northwest Ohio, where areas of fog have developed with visibilities below one-half mile and patches below one-quarter mile possible. Drivers in Williams, Fulton, Defiance, Henry, Paulding, Putnam and Van Wert counties should be ready for rapid changes in visibility over short distances, with conditions expected to improve after 8 a.m. No watches or warnings are in effect anywhere else in Ohio.

After that fog burns off, sunshine takes over statewide. Highs today reach near 69 degrees in Toledo and Cleveland, 70 in Columbus, 69 in Athens and 68 in Youngstown, while the southwest runs warmest — 73 in Dayton and 74 in Cincinnati, where areas of fog are also expected before 9 a.m. Winds stay light out of the south and southeast, and the chance of rain is zero in every region the Weather Service forecasts today.

In the northwest, Toledo starts with patchy fog before 10 a.m., then turns mostly sunny with a high near 69. In the northeast, Cleveland is sunny and near 69, while Youngstown begins the day with patchy frost before 9 a.m. after an overnight low around 35, then warms to near 68 under sunny skies. Anyone heading out early in the northeast should expect a cold start before the afternoon warm-up.

Central Ohio is sunny with a high near 70 in Columbus. The southwest is the warmest corner of the state, with sunny skies and highs near 73 in Dayton and 74 in Cincinnati after morning fog. In the southeast, Athens has patchy fog between 8 and 9 a.m., then sunshine and a high near 69. Fall color is near its best in many areas, and today’s clear, dry weather makes it a good day to get outside across all five regions.

Tonight stays dry and mostly clear to partly cloudy, with lows in the mid-40s in most of Ohio — around 46 in Toledo and Columbus, 45 in Cleveland and Cincinnati, and 49 in Dayton. The southeast cools the most, with Athens dropping to around 40. Those largely clear skies should give Ohioans a good look at the Hunter’s Moon, which reaches peak illumination early Monday at 12:12 a.m.

Monday is another dry, sunny day, and a touch warmer. The Weather Service expects highs near 70 in Toledo, 69 in Cleveland, 71 in Youngstown and Athens, 73 in Columbus and 75 in both Dayton and Cincinnati, with no rain in the forecast. Monday night turns partly to mostly cloudy with lows in the mid- to upper 40s, and patchy morning fog is possible again in the southeast.

The extended outlook is unusually calm for late October. Tuesday brings a brief cool-down in the north, with highs near 63 in Toledo and 64 in Cleveland, while central and southwest Ohio stay in the low to mid-70s. Temperatures rebound into the 70s statewide Wednesday through Friday, peaking near 76 in Columbus and 78 in Cincinnati on Thursday and Friday, with dry weather continuing. The next chance of rain in the current outlook does not arrive until Saturday, and even then it is only slight — around 10 to 14 percent. Travelers should use caution only during this morning’s fog in the northwest; after that, Ohio roads should be clear and dry all week.
