Ohio gets a mild, mostly dry Thursday, November 5, before a cooler and wetter pattern moves in Friday, according to the National Weather Service. No watches, warnings or advisories were in effect for Ohio early Thursday, and morning clouds are expected to give way to partly to mostly sunny skies across much of the state. Highs today range from near 59 in the northwest to the upper 60s in the southeast, with a breezy southwest wind gusting to 24 to 26 mph in many areas.
In northwest Ohio, Toledo stays mostly cloudy with a high near 59 and southwest winds of 8 to 16 mph, gusting as high as 26 mph, the National Weather Service in Cleveland said. Northeast Ohio fares brighter and warmer: Cleveland is partly sunny near 63, Akron reaches near 64 with gusts as high as 25 mph, and Youngstown tops out near 66. Rain chances across the north stay at 10 percent or less today.
Central and southwest Ohio get the sunniest version of the day. Columbus is mostly sunny with a high near 66 and southwest winds gusting as high as 24 mph, according to the National Weather Service in Wilmington. Cincinnati is sunny near 66, and Dayton is mostly sunny, also near 66 — a pleasant fall afternoon along the I-70 and I-75 corridors.
Southeast Ohio is the warmest part of the state, with Athens mostly sunny near 69, the National Weather Service in Charleston said. Tonight turns mostly to partly cloudy statewide, with lows in the mid-40s — 45 to 47 in most cities. The exception is the far northwest, where rain is likely after 10 p.m. around Toledo, with a 60 percent chance and amounts under a tenth of an inch.
Friday brings the change. Highs drop into the 50s statewide, and rain is likely across northeast Ohio — a 70 percent chance for Cleveland, Akron and Youngstown, with highs near 55 to 58. Farther south it stays drier: Columbus and Athens each have a 30 percent chance of rain, with highs near 57 and 62, Cincinnati stays partly sunny near 58, and Dayton has only a slight chance of a morning shower near 57.
Friday night lows fall into the upper 30s statewide, from 36 to 39. Rain continues in the northeast Saturday with highs only in the low 50s, while the rest of Ohio stays mostly cloudy to partly sunny in the mid-50s with little or no rain. National Weather Service outlooks then point to drier, sunnier weather Sunday, recovering toward the upper 50s and low 60s early next week.
For travelers, today is the easy day of the stretch: dry roads statewide, with gusty southwest winds the main nuisance for high-profile vehicles and loose outdoor items. Plan on a jacket for tonight’s mid-40s lows, and drivers in northeast Ohio should allow extra time on wet roads Friday and Saturday. No severe weather is expected, and rainfall amounts in the north are generally expected to stay under a tenth of an inch at a time.
