Meigs County has entered the final week of early in-person voting for the Nov. 3 general election, with voters casting ballots at the board office in Pomeroy under extended hours. According to the Meigs County Board of Elections, early voting that began Oct. 6 continues through Sunday, Nov. 1, and there is no early voting on Monday, Nov. 2.
Early voting takes place at the Meigs County Board of Elections, in the Meigs County Annex Building at 113 E. Memorial Dr., Suite A, Pomeroy, OH 45769, according to the board and the Ohio Secretary of State’s early voting locations list. Tuesday, Oct. 27 is the longest day on the schedule, open from 7:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m., the Ohio Secretary of State’s schedule shows. Oct. 27 is also the deadline for absentee ballot applications to be received by the board, by 8:30 p.m.
The remaining final-week hours are the same in every Ohio county, according to the Ohio Secretary of State. Voting runs from 7:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday through Friday, Oct. 28 to 30, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 31, and from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 1, the last day of early in-person voting. The board posts the identical schedule on its own early voting hours page.
On the Nov. 3 ballot, Meigs County voters will decide statewide races for governor, attorney general, auditor, secretary of state, treasurer, two Ohio Supreme Court seats and U.S. senator, along with statewide Issue 3, the proposed constitutional amendment to require photo identification to vote. Closer to home, the ballot also carries county races including county commissioner, judgeships, and local levies and issues that vary by precinct. The board links voters to their precinct sample ballot through its website.
Voters who prefer to vote by mail can still act on Tuesday. According to the Meigs County Board of Elections, absentee applications can be downloaded and printed from the board’s website and mailed to the board office, requested by email, or requested by phone. Completed non-military and non-overseas absentee ballots must be received by the board by 7:30 p.m. on Election Day, Nov. 3, the Ohio Secretary of State’s schedule shows.
Voters who wait until Election Day will vote at their precinct polling place, not at the board office, with polls open from 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 3, according to the Ohio Secretary of State. The board’s website carries polling place lookup tools and posted notices of polling location changes for the Lebanon and Rutland precincts, so voters in those areas should confirm their location before heading out.
For Meigs County residents, the choice this week is between a final-week trip to Pomeroy and a planned trip on Election Day. Checking a sample ballot, confirming the polling place, and noting the Sunday, Nov. 1 end of early voting can prevent a wasted trip. The board can be reached at (740) 992-2697, with regular office hours of 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday.
