MASON — The largest temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Ohio is set to rise in Mason, with a groundbreaking ceremony planned for Nov. 7. The church paid close to $7.9 million for a 35-acre parcel at the southwest corner of Mason-Montgomery Road and Cedar Village Drive, where the 29,630-square-foot temple is expected to take about three years to complete.

General contractor Big-D Construction and architect Richardson Design Partnership, both based in Salt Lake City, will build the project. The temple will be the church’s third in Ohio, rising amid the retail and residential properties along the busy Mason corridor.

The church first announced plans for a Greater Cincinnati temple more than two years ago, and local members say the wait has felt long. “It’s long waited for, prayed for and fasted for,” said Jared Mattingley, one of six church presidents serving the Greater Cincinnati, Northern Kentucky and Dayton area. “It’s a tremendous blessing to have it close by.”

Once finished, the Mason temple will give thousands of Ohio church members a house of worship within driving distance instead of traveling out of state. Church officials say the three-year construction project will also bring jobs and activity to the fast-growing corridor around Mason-Montgomery Road.
