YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio — The Mahoning Valley packed its Sunday with Halloween-season gatherings on Oct. 25, as trunk-or-treats in Youngstown and Austintown, a Halloween parade in downtown Warren and a silent film scored live on a pipe organ at Stambaugh Auditorium gave families across Mahoning and Trumbull counties a full afternoon of options.
The day’s lineup began at noon with a trunk-or-treat at Westside Bowl, 2617 Mahoning Ave. in Youngstown, hosted with the Mahoning County CASA Program. Costumed children moved from decorated trunk to decorated trunk at the bowling center, one of several candy-centered stops on the Valley’s final full weekend before Halloween.
At 2 p.m., the Warren Halloween Parade stepped off in downtown Warren, drawing costumed marchers and spectators to the Trumbull County seat. The parade anchored the northern end of the day’s events while Youngstown’s programs continued a few miles to the south.
The afternoon’s most unusual offering started at 2:30 p.m. at Stambaugh Auditorium in Youngstown, where the 1927 silent film Sunrise was screened with live organ accompaniment. The presentation gave audiences a rare chance to hear the hall’s pipe organ score a silent movie the way audiences experienced films a century ago.
The day wraps up from 4 to 5:30 p.m. with a trunk-or-treat at Marco’s Pizza, 4381 Kirk Road in Austintown, giving families on the Valley’s west side one more stop before the weekend ends.
Sunday’s events closed out a three-day run of fall programming across the Valley, following Saturday’s trunk-or-treats in Struthers, Austintown, Campbell and Cortland, the Wick Park Trails of Treats in Youngstown, and an OMEA District 5 Honors Choir concert at Stambaugh Auditorium.
With Halloween falling on Saturday this year, community trick-or-treat schedules across Mahoning and Trumbull counties take over the calendar in the coming days, and Sunday’s crowds suggested families are making the most of every event on it.
