The Columbus Blue Jackets have a new look for the rest of the 2026-27 season. The team, the NHL and Fanatics unveiled the club’s Hometown Remix uniform on Monday, November 2 — a gray alternate jersey built around the cannon crest — and Columbus will wear it for the first time on Tuesday, November 3, when the Colorado Avalanche visit Nationwide Arena for a 7 p.m. game.

The Hometown Remix program gave every one of the NHL’s 32 teams a special-edition uniform designed around its own city and fan base, according to the league’s announcement on NHL.com. Columbus’s version uses a solid gray base as the backdrop for the graphic cannon logo on the chest, with the player numbers outlined in white, the team said in its release.

The details lean hard on Columbus itself. The sleeves honor the city’s “Arch City” nickname with an arched design and a debossed filigree pattern behind the sleeve numbers, and the hem carries an italicized “5th Line” graphic — the name Blue Jackets fans have given themselves — according to the team’s description of the uniform on NHL.com.

“The cannon and The 5th Line are synonymous with Blue Jackets hockey, and this jersey allows us to honor both while also tipping a cap to the origins of our team and great city,” Blue Jackets vice president of marketing Ryan Chenault said in the team’s release, as reported by The Columbus Dispatch. Chenault added in the release that silver represents strength and resilience, symbolized by the cannon and reflective of the team and the city.

The cannon is familiar territory for Columbus fans. It has anchored the club’s alternate looks before, including the Stadium Series uniform, and the real cannon fired inside Nationwide Arena after Blue Jackets goals is one of the best-known in-arena traditions in the NHL. The Hometown Remix version puts that cannon front and center as the primary crest rather than a shoulder patch or secondary mark.

Columbus will get plenty of use out of the new sweaters. The team said it will wear the Hometown Remix uniform 13 times during the 2026-27 season, beginning with Tuesday’s game against Colorado, with the next wearing set for Tuesday, November 10, against the Florida Panthers at 7:30 p.m. at Nationwide Arena. Across the league, The Hockey News reported, the Hometown Remix uniforms will appear throughout the season as each club rolls out its own city-inspired design.

Reaction among hockey writers was mixed but leaned positive on the Columbus design. The fan site 1st Ohio Battery noted the Blue Jackets’ sweater ranked seventh among all 32 Hometown Remix designs in a review by The Athletic and 13th in a similar ranking by ESPN, even as some fans debated the choice of gray as the base color for a team named for Union Army coats.

The jerseys went on sale the day they were unveiled. The team said Authentic Pro and Premium versions, along with headwear and men’s and women’s fan gear, are available at The Blue Line stores at Nationwide Arena and Polaris Fashion Place, at the team’s online store, and across the Fanatics network, including NHLShop.com and Fanatics.com.

Special-edition uniforms have become a regular part of the Blue Jackets’ calendar, following the league’s earlier Reverse Retro programs and the club’s Stadium Series appearance. Each one has leaned on a different slice of Columbus identity; the Hometown Remix set is the first to build the whole design around the Arch City nickname, the cannon and the 5th Line at the same time. Columbus is one stop in a much larger rollout. The NHL said the Hometown Remix uniforms will show up in 261 games league-wide this season, including 19 games in which both teams wear their new designs, according to the league’s collection announcement. Each club’s version draws on local landmarks, motifs and culture, the league said — which is why Columbus’s entry leans on arches, the cannon and the fan base rather than on the club’s usual navy, red and union blue.

What happens next is simple: the sweaters make their on-ice debut Tuesday night against Colorado at Nationwide Arena, and fans will see them 12 more times at home this season. How long the gray look stays in the rotation beyond this year will depend, as it always does, on how the 5th Line votes with its wallets.
