A 78-year-old Defiance driver was flown to a Toledo hospital with serious injuries after a two-vehicle crash Wednesday evening in Delaware Township, Defiance County, the Ohio State Highway Patrol’s Defiance Post said in a report carried by WBNOWQCT.
The crash happened at about 8:20 p.m. at the intersection of Buckskin Road and The Bend Road, according to the patrol’s preliminary investigation reported by WBNOWQCT. A 2011 Toyota Camry was traveling westbound on Buckskin Road and a 2019 Buick Enclave was traveling eastbound on the same road.
The patrol said the Camry’s driver ran a stop sign and struck the Enclave as the Enclave had stopped and was making a left turn onto The Bend Road, WBNOWQCT reported. The Camry then continued off the right side of the roadway and struck a pole.
The Camry was operated by Adebusola G. Balogun, 39, of Toledo, who was not injured, according to the patrol as reported by WBNOWQCT. The Enclave was operated by Marion L. Woodring, 78, of Defiance, who sustained serious injury and was taken by Life Flight to Saint Vincent’s Hospital in Toledo.
Both drivers were wearing their safety belts at the time of the crash, the patrol said, according to WBNOWQCT. No additional passengers or other injuries were reported in the patrol’s preliminary account.
The patrol said the crash remains under investigation. No charges or citations were announced in the preliminary report, and officials have not released any further information about Woodring’s condition.
Drivers traveling Buckskin Road and The Bend Road in Delaware Township should use caution at rural intersections, where stop-sign control and turning traffic can combine with limited nighttime visibility. The patrol’s investigation will determine the final findings on the crash.
