Certus Medical LLC, an orthopedic medical device sales and clinical services company, has selected Westerville for a new regional office and advanced surgical training laboratory, creating 45 jobs in the Columbus region, JobsOhio announced.

The 5,000-square-foot facility, at 194 Heatherdown Road according to OhioMBE’s summary of the announcement, will bring together the company’s Ohio commercial operations and a state-of-the-art anatomical surgical training laboratory. JobsOhio said the lab will give orthopedic surgeons hands-on opportunities to train in advanced joint replacement techniques, surgical navigation technology and other evolving orthopedic technologies.

“Ohio surgeons and hospitals deserve the best clinical support in the country, and that means investing in people and training infrastructure here in Ohio,” Certus Medical President Zac Gerdts said in the JobsOhio announcement. “The training lab is at the heart of this project. It will allow us to bring surgeons together for hands-on experience with the latest technology while continuing to develop the highly skilled clinical talent this field requires,” Gerdts told JobsOhio.

The jobs are specialized ones. JobsOhio said the project will support surgical navigation specialists who work with augmented-reality guidance systems in operating rooms, clinical professionals who assist with patient-specific implant planning, and technical staff who support advanced surgical instrumentation. Those employees will work directly alongside surgeons and hospital teams, JobsOhio said.

The Westerville hub will support the company’s continued expansion across the Midwest and East Coast, according to JobsOhio, and is expected to draw surgical teams from across the country to the Columbus region for training. Gerdts said in the announcement that Westerville provides the right combination of location, workforce and commitment to medical technology to support that vision.

The announcement adds another healthcare-technology employer to Westerville’s growing medical corridor in northern Franklin and southern Delaware counties, an area that has drawn medical offices, training operations and related services in recent years.

JobsOhio did not announce an opening date for the facility in its release. The company is expected to staff the 45 positions as the office and training lab come online, with roles centered on clinical support and surgical training rather than general administration.
