Ohio is settling into a quiet, clear night after a warm Sunday, with no watches, warnings or advisories in effect anywhere in the state, according to the National Weather Service. The late-afternoon statewide roundup still showed 69 degrees in Toledo, Defiance, Findlay and Lima, 72 in Cincinnati, 69 in Dayton and 67 in Columbus, while readings along Lake Erie had eased into the low to mid-60s. Temperatures fall steadily through the 50s this evening and into the 40s overnight under mostly clear to partly cloudy skies, with light winds and no rain expected.

The one wrinkle tonight is fog. In northwest Ohio, the National Weather Service expects patchy fog to develop after 4 a.m., especially in low-lying and rural areas, with a low around 44 in the Columbus Grove and Bowling Green area and calm winds turning south around 5 mph. Similar patchy fog cannot be ruled out in other low spots statewide before sunrise, so early Monday drivers in the northwest should be ready for brief drops in visibility.

Region by region tonight, the northeast stays partly cloudy with lows in the low to mid-40s — around 44 in Cleveland and near 41 in parts of Holmes and Wayne counties after Akron-Canton read 64 and Youngstown 64 late this afternoon. Central Ohio turns mostly clear with a low around 42 in Columbus. The southwest, the warmest corner of the state Sunday evening, stays clear with a low near 46 in Cincinnati. In the southeast, a mostly clear night also settles into the 40s, and outdoor plans need no weather backup beyond a jacket after sunset.

Monday starts with any patchy fog burning off before about 8 a.m. in the northwest, then turns mostly sunny statewide for the start of the workweek. Highs reach the upper 60s in the northeast, near 73 in the northwest and central Ohio, near 74 in Columbus, and the low to mid-70s in the southwest around Cincinnati and Dayton. Winds stay light, and the National Weather Service holds the chance of precipitation at or near zero across Ohio on Monday.

Monday night turns partly to mostly cloudy with lows back in the mid- to upper 40s — around 46 in Columbus, 47 in the northwest and 44 in the Cleveland area. Tuesday stays dry and partly cloudy to partly sunny, with highs in the upper 60s in the north and the low 70s in central and southern Ohio, before clouds increase a bit Tuesday night and lows climb to around 49 to 51 in many areas.

The extended outlook keeps the quiet, dry pattern going through Halloween week. Wednesday is mostly cloudy with lows in the upper 40s and highs in the lower 70s. Thursday turns partly cloudy with lows in the lower 50s and highs in the mid- to upper 70s. Friday is partly cloudy with lows in the mid-50s and highs in the lower to mid-70s, and Saturday is mostly cloudy with lows in the mid-50s and highs in the lower 70s. The next chance of showers in the current outlook does not arrive until Sunday, when the National Weather Service shows mostly cloudy skies with a chance of showers, lows in the upper 50s and highs in the upper 60s.

There are no major travel or safety impacts in tonight’s forecast — roads are dry statewide and winds stay light. The only caution is for the Monday morning drive in northwest Ohio and other fog-prone low spots: slow down, use low-beam headlights and leave extra following distance until the fog lifts. Otherwise, the clear night and the dry, mild week ahead give Ohioans more time to finish fall yard work and enjoy the late-October color before the pattern finally changes next weekend.
