The University of Toledo is celebrating its transfer students this week with three days of campus events running Wednesday, Oct. 21, through Friday, Oct. 23, as part of National Transfer Student Week. All of the events are being held in the Thompson Student Union on the university’s Main Campus in Toledo, and they are designed to welcome students who started their college education somewhere else and chose to continue it at UToledo.

The celebration opened Wednesday with a Transfer Week Swag Swap from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Thompson Student Union Room 2518. Transfer students could trade in an item from their previous college for a UToledo T-shirt by stopping by the Center for Advocacy and Student Experience, known as the CASE office. The university said the shirts were limited and available on a first come, first served basis.

The schedule continues Thursday, Oct. 22, with a Transfer Week Hot Cocoa Bar from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Thompson Student Union. The week then closes Friday, Oct. 23, with a Transfer Week Meet and Greet from noon to 1 p.m. in Thompson Student Union Room 2561, where students can meet fellow transfer students, enter for door prizes and learn about opportunities to get involved with the transfer community at UToledo.

National Transfer Student Week is held at universities nationwide each year to celebrate transfer students and to raise awareness of the unique challenges and opportunities that come with transferring to a new university. Changing schools can mean learning a new campus, new degree requirements and a new set of support offices, and the week’s events are meant to help students make those connections early in their time at a new institution.

The celebration comes as UToledo marks a second consecutive year on a national list for its work with transfer students. For the second year in a row, the university was recognized by Phi Theta Kappa, the national transfer student honor society, on its 2026 Transfer Honor Roll, in recognition of the dynamic pathways the university has created to support transfer students.

According to the university, the Phi Theta Kappa Transfer Honor Roll recognizes institutions based on success rates, campus friendliness and sense of belonging, the availability of need-based and merit-based financial aid, the acceptance of transfer credits toward a four-year degree program, and the recruitment experience and campus life offered to transfers. Those measures speak directly to the questions transfer students weigh most heavily, including whether credits they have already earned will count toward their degree.

For students taking part this week, the remaining events are drop-in occasions that require no advance registration in the schedule the university published. Students who missed Wednesday’s swag swap can still attend Thursday’s hot cocoa bar or Friday’s meet and greet in the Thompson Student Union, meet other transfer students, and connect with the CASE office and the wider transfer community before the week concludes on Friday afternoon.
