TOLEDO — The Toledo Police Department has released body-camera footage from two encounters last month involving a Toledo man who is now in federal immigration custody.

The footage covers a Sept. 2 encounter and the Sept. 14 arrest of Nazario Vazquez. The department made the recordings public as questions continue over the case, which has drawn attention in Northwest Ohio.

Police did not provide additional detail on the circumstances of the encounters beyond releasing the video. Vazquez remains in the custody of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement following the Sept. 14 arrest.

Releasing body-worn camera video has become standard practice for many Ohio law enforcement agencies in cases that attract public interest. The recordings typically show events from the responding officers’ perspective, though they do not capture everything that happened before or after the cameras were activated.
