CHILLICOTHE — Six people were injured Thursday evening in a five-vehicle chain-reaction crash along U.S. 50 in Ross County, drawing a large emergency response and snarling traffic during the evening commute.
The crash happened shortly after 5:15 p.m. Thursday in the 2100 block of Western Avenue near the U.S. 50 ramp, according to initial emergency radio traffic. Dispatchers reported four to five vehicles involved in the pileup. Ross County EMS squads responded, joined by a mutual-aid squad from a neighboring department, as crews worked the scene in the westbound lanes.
No fatalities were reported in the initial dispatch reports, and authorities had not released the conditions of the six injured as of Thursday night. Emergency crews remained on scene for an extended period, and drivers were urged to avoid the area while wreckers cleared the roadway.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol is expected to release additional details, including what set off the chain reaction, once troopers complete their initial investigation. Motorists in the Chillicothe area are reminded to slow down and increase following distance when traffic stacks up near the U.S. 50 interchange.
