Frost Advisory for Franklin County until 9:00 AM ET — see the details
Mon. Oct 19th, 2026

LEWIS CENTER, Ohio — Olentangy Local Schools’ fifth high school now has a name: Hyatts High School.

The school board approved the name at its Oct. 8 meeting after reviewing more than 700 community submissions along with staff and student input and historical research. District policy requires school names to reflect local history or geography — and Hyatts fits. When Delaware County’s one-room schoolhouses began consolidating into K-12 buildings after 1910, Hyatts School was the second such school when it opened in 1914. It closed in 1973, and the district already has a Hyatts Middle School.

The most-suggested name was Concord High School, after Concord Township, but officials said the new campus — under construction near Bunty Station Road and Sawmill Parkway in the city of Delaware — sits just outside the township. Other suggestions included Sawmill, Station, Stratford and Delaware.

Construction began this summer, and the 300,000-square-foot building — with an 800-seat auditorium, main and auxiliary gyms, a weight room, media center, commons and cafe — is expected to open in fall 2028. A mascot and attendance boundaries will be set at a later meeting. The project is funded by the $235 million bond levy voters approved in 2025. The district’s 18th elementary school, Deer Haven Elementary, opens in August 2027.
