Ohio Dominican’s men’s soccer team twice came from a goal down on its home field Saturday, answering an early Kentucky Wesleyan strike and then a second-half equalizer the other way to finish in a 2-2 draw in Great Midwest Athletic Conference play at Panther Stadium in Columbus.
Kentucky Wesleyan struck almost immediately, with Braeden Myers-Curry scoring in the second minute to put the visitors in front 1-0. Ohio Dominican answered in the 13th minute, when Amadu Bah scored off an assist from Kristofer Ninov to level the match at 1-1.
Aiden Crowley converted a penalty kick in the 37th minute to send the Panthers into halftime with a 2-1 lead, completing the first comeback of the afternoon and giving Ohio Dominican control of a match it had trailed in the opening moments.
Kentucky Wesleyan responded after the break. Cameron Bell found the net in the 57th minute, recording his third goal of the season and tying the match at 2-2, and neither team scored again despite continued pressure from the visitors.
The visitors finished with 19 shots, 12 of them on goal, led by Myers-Curry’s seven shots and six on target. Jhaeem Bryan added three shots, with two on target, and Kentucky Wesleyan goalkeeper Iver Sjavag made three saves.
The draw moves Kentucky Wesleyan to 7-4-4 overall and 6-3-4 in G-MAC play, while Ohio Dominican is now 1-10-5 overall and 0-9-4 in conference action, still looking for its first conference win of the season.
Kentucky Wesleyan concludes its G-MAC regular season on Tuesday, October 27, at Thomas More. Ohio Dominican’s point on Saturday keeps the Panthers moving as the conference schedule reaches its final week.
For Ohio Dominican, the draw was a point earned the hard way. The Panthers conceded inside the first two minutes, led at halftime, and then had to settle for a share of the result after Bell’s equalizer — against a Kentucky Wesleyan side that kept the pressure on for long stretches, outshooting the hosts 19 in total attempts and putting 12 of those efforts on frame. A team still searching for its first conference win of the season does not often come away from a match like that with anything, and the Panthers’ two answers — Bah’s quick reply after the early concession and Crowley’s calm penalty before the break — showed a side that refused to let the game get away from it.
