The Cleveland Guardians have clawed all the way back. After dropping the first two games of the American League Division Series, Cleveland roared back with 9-3 and 9-5 wins on Chicago’s South Side, forcing a winner-take-all Game 5 tonight at Progressive Field.
First pitch is scheduled for 8:08 p.m. ET on Saturday. The Guardians are expected to hand the ball to right-hander Gavin Williams, who struck out 11 in his Game 2 start, while the Chicago White Sox counter with right-hander Sean Burke.
The stakes could not be higher. The winner advances to the American League Championship Series to face the Tampa Bay Rays, who swept the Yankees to punch their ticket to the next round.
For Cleveland, tonight is a chance to finish one of the great comebacks in franchise postseason history. A team that looked finished after falling into a 2-0 hole is now one win from the ALCS, and a sellout crowd is expected to pack downtown for the deciding game.
