BOURNEVILLE, Ohio — Firefighters from four departments knocked down a house fire in Twin Township early Sunday, keeping the blaze confined to the rear of the home, according to the Twin Township Fire Department.
Twin Township crews were dispatched to the 7800 block of Upper Twin Road at about 6:30 a.m. for a report of a structure fire, the department said in a Facebook post reported by the Scioto Valley Guardian. Engine 1608 and Tanker 1611 were among the first units on scene, where firefighters found light smoke coming from the back of the house.
Crews moved in with an offensive attack and were able to keep the fire contained to a small portion of the home, the department said. The department’s post did not report any injuries, and it did not announce a cause for the fire.
Twin Township received mutual aid from the Huntington Township, Bainbridge Fire & EMS and Veterans Affairs fire departments, according to the department. Concord Township and Pebble Township fire departments, in neighboring Pike County, staged on standby in case additional help was needed.
The department thanked the responding crews for their assistance and praised its own members in the post, crediting the teamwork of the firefighters who responded, the Scioto Valley Guardian reported. Mutual aid is the backbone of fire protection in rural Ross County, where small departments routinely cross township lines to answer each other’s calls.
Twin Township Fire Department is an all-volunteer department headquartered on U.S. Route 50 in Bourneville, the unincorporated community at the center of the township, according to the Scioto Valley Guardian. The department serves roughly 60 square miles of rural south-central Ross County.
Sunday morning’s call is the kind of run that stretches a volunteer roster: an early-morning structure fire, handled with help from three neighboring departments while two more stood by across the county line in Pike County. By containing the fire to the rear of the home, crews limited the damage to the family living there.
Residents with information about the fire, or who need the department for a non-emergency matter, can reach the Twin Township Fire Department through its Bourneville station on U.S. Route 50. Fire safety officials remind homeowners across Ross County to check smoke alarms as colder weather brings more heating equipment back into use.
