Elder High School star quarterback Kaden Estep has flipped his college commitment from one Southwest Ohio program to another, announcing November 1 that he will play for the University of Cincinnati Bearcats, the Cincinnati Enquirer reported.

Estep, a three-star prospect, had previously committed to Miami University in February, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer. His flip gives Cincinnati a local headliner at the most important position on the field — and gives the Bearcats a quarterback who is likely to finish his career as Elder’s best statistical quarterback in program history.

The numbers explain the attention. Estep became Elder’s leader in career passing yards during the regular-season finale against Mount Zion Prep, racking up 6,861 yards over three seasons, according to the Enquirer. This season he has thrown for 2,523 yards while completing 73.5 percent of his passes, with 26 touchdowns against just three interceptions — production that has put him in the thick of the Mr. Football race in 2026, the Enquirer reported.

Estep led Elder to an 8-2 record and the No. 2 seed in the Division I Southwest region playoffs, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer. Last season, he led Elder to an undefeated regular season and the regional finals and was named to the All-Ohio first team.

Flipping to Cincinnati gives Estep the chance to play at a power conference school, the Enquirer noted. The Bearcats, part of the Big 12, made national headlines with a recent upset of then-No. 8 Texas Tech on October 24. Head coach Scott Satterfield is in his fourth season leading the Bearcats, with a 19-24 record over that span, and Cincinnati had its best season of his tenure in 2025, finishing 7-6 after being ranked as high as 17th in the AP Poll, according to the Enquirer.

Estep is the second high-profile Cincinnati high school recruit to decommit from the RedHawks this season, joining Princeton’s Jordan Hall, who flipped to Penn State on October 24, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer. Miami has gone to three consecutive Mid-American Conference championship games and is 5-3 so far in 2026, but the losses of Estep and Hall show how hard it is for a MAC program to hold local stars once power conference offers firm up.

For now, Estep’s focus stays on Elder’s playoff run as the Panthers chase a deep November from the No. 2 seed. His signing with Cincinnati will become official in the upcoming signing period, and Bearcat fans will be watching whether the hometown quarterback’s record-setting high school career translates uptown to Nippert Stadium.
