CLEVELAND, Ohio — Cuyahoga County voters are in the final days of early in-person voting for the Nov. 3 general election, with the county Board of Elections open for extended hours through Sunday, Nov. 1, according to the Cuyahoga County Board of Elections. Early voting takes place only at the board’s office at 1803 Superior Avenue in Cleveland.
The board’s published schedule keeps the office open from 7:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday through Friday, Oct. 28-30, then from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 31, and from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 1, the final day of early in-person voting, the Board of Elections said. After Sunday, the only way to cast a ballot is in person at an assigned precinct on Election Day.
Election Day polls in Cuyahoga County will be open Tuesday, Nov. 3, from 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., the board said. The board is also warning that a number of polling locations in Cleveland and surrounding suburbs have changed for this election, and it urges voters who plan to vote on Election Day to confirm their polling place ahead of time rather than heading to the location they used in past years.
Vote-by-mail ballots face a hard deadline this year. The Board of Elections said vote-by-mail ballots must be returned by the close of polls on Election Day, and ballots delivered in person must reach the board by 7:30 p.m. on Nov. 3 to be counted. The deadline to apply for a vote-by-mail ballot passed at 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 27, according to the board’s voter deadlines page.
Voters heading to early voting or to the polls need one acceptable form of identification, the board said. The list includes an Ohio driver license, an Ohio state ID card, an interim identification form issued by the Bureau of Motor Vehicles, a U.S. passport or passport card, and qualifying U.S. military, Ohio National Guard or Department of Veterans Affairs ID cards with the voter’s name and photograph. A digital ID in Apple Wallet is not acceptable, the board said.
Cuyahoga County is Ohio’s second-most-populous county, and its ballot includes countywide offices and levies, municipal and judicial races, state legislative and congressional contests, Ohio’s statewide races and statewide Issue 3, the proposal to write the state’s photo ID requirement into the Ohio Constitution. Voters can preview what is on their ballot through the board’s election pages before they go.
The board’s office, at 1803 Superior Avenue, can be reached at (216) 443-8683, with regular office hours of 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday outside the early-voting schedule, the Board of Elections said. The board also meets at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 2, on the eve of the election. For Cuyahoga County voters who want to avoid Election Day lines, the board’s message is simple: the early-voting window closes at 5 p.m. Sunday.
