Certus Medical LLC, an orthopedic medical device sales and clinical services company, has selected Westerville for its next regional hub, announcing plans Monday to create 45 jobs at a new 5,000-square-foot facility that will pair its Ohio commercial operations with a state-of-the-art surgical training laboratory. The facility will be located at 194 Heatherdown Road in Westerville, in the heart of the city’s Medical Mile.

The centerpiece of the project is an anatomical surgical training lab where orthopedic surgeons can get hands-on practice with advanced joint replacement techniques, surgical navigation technology and other evolving orthopedic tools. Certus said the specialized positions it is adding include surgical navigation specialists who support augmented-reality guidance systems in operating rooms, clinical professionals who assist with patient-specific implant planning, and technical staff who support advanced surgical instrumentation alongside hospital teams.

“Ohio surgeons and hospitals deserve the best clinical support in the country, and that means investing in people and training infrastructure here in Ohio,” said Zac Gerdts, president of Certus Medical. “The training lab is at the heart of this project. It will allow us to bring surgeons together for hands-on experience with the latest technology while continuing to develop the highly skilled clinical talent this field requires.”

The Ohio Tax Credit Authority added state support for the project on Monday, approving a 1.7 percent, eight-year job creation tax credit. According to the Ohio Department of Development, Certus expects the 45 full-time-equivalent positions to generate $7.31 million in new annual payroll by Dec. 31, 2031, as the company builds a Westerville base to serve its growing clientele across the Midwest and East Coast.

Westerville officials said the company lands in one of the Columbus region’s densest healthcare corridors. The city’s 2.6-mile Medical Mile, generally along Cleveland Avenue and Polaris Parkway, is home to most of the region’s major healthcare systems, and Westerville recently earned Ohio Life Sciences’ Premier Life Science Ready Community designation, the organization’s highest recognition for communities positioned to support biotech and life sciences growth.

“Certus Medical is an excellent fit for Westerville, since it will be strategically located near one of the largest clinical and administrative healthcare industry clusters in the Columbus Region,” said Rachel Ray, the city’s economic development director. “We’re proud to welcome Certus Medical to our Medical Mile and our growing healthcare and life sciences ecosystem.”

The Westerville investment builds on a transition Certus made earlier this year, when the Indianapolis-headquartered company assumed responsibility for its Ohio orthopedic market in March 2026, retaining the existing Ohio field organization and moving those professionals onto its own payroll with full medical and retirement benefits. JobsOhio President and CEO J.P. Nauseef said the expansion deepens Ohio’s position along the I-71 Ohio Discovery Corridor, adding specialized jobs and a national training asset in Westerville.
