Bayer Pharmaceutical will build a $2.2 billion manufacturing campus in New Albany, the company’s first-ever North American manufacturing operation and what state leaders are calling Ohio’s largest international healthcare project.
Gov. Mike DeWine announced the project Oct. 2 alongside Bayer chief operating officer Sebastian Guth. The “modular, flexible” campus will sit on 200 acres in the New Albany International Business Park in Franklin County.
The project is expected to create about 1,500 construction jobs and 600 permanent, high-paying manufacturing jobs. Bayer said Ohio beat out other states in part because of its proximity to seven major research universities.
The 200-acre site sits adjacent to the planned $30 million Ohio Life Sciences Training Center, a future workforce pipeline for the region’s growing biotech corridor.
State officials described the deal as Germany’s largest direct investment in Ohio history. Construction timelines and hiring schedules are expected to be detailed in the coming months.
