Hudson’s girls soccer team is still perfect. The top-seeded Explorers routed No. 18 Hoover 8-0 on Saturday to win the Division II, Northeast 7 district championship and improve to 18-0, headlining a Halloween weekend of district finals across Greater Akron in which Walsh Jesuit, Medina, Highland, Green and Revere also lifted trophies, according to results reported by the Akron Beacon Journal.
Hannah Meese powered Hudson’s rout with a hat trick and two assists, the Beacon Journal reported. Alyssa Maniar scored twice and added an assist, Cameron Murdough and Molly Grady also scored, and Elliana Durachinsky contributed two assists as the Explorers overwhelmed the Vikings (7-10-1) from the opening minutes.
In Division I, Walsh Jesuit needed just one goal. Alice Arabia converted a pass from Abby Witkiewicz to lift the top-seeded Warriors (17-2-1) past No. 10 Stow 1-0 in the Northeast 1 district final, according to the Beacon Journal. The loss ended the Bulldogs’ season at 8-9-2 after a run through the bottom half of the bracket.
Medina matched Walsh Jesuit in the Northeast 4 final, blanking No. 8 Mentor 3-0. Lydia Tighe scored the game-winner in the first half and Emma McTigue registered a brace in the second half for the third-seeded Bees (15-3-1), the Beacon Journal reported. Mentor finished 11-5-3.
That sets up the round’s marquee rematch: Walsh Jesuit and Medina meet in a Division I, Region 4 semifinal at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 3. The Beacon Journal listed the site as West Geauga in its results roundup, while its earlier district-final preview had the semifinal at Twinsburg — fans should confirm the site with their school before traveling. The two teams tied 1-1 in the regular season on Sept. 26.
Highland claimed the other half of the Region 7 bracket in emphatic fashion, beating Lake 5-1 in its district final. Charlotte Madison scored two goals for the third-seeded Hornets (15-4-1), and Sophia Madison, Penny Dykeman and Jordyn Caples also scored, according to the Beacon Journal.
Green earned its place opposite Highland the hard way. Maddie Haddox scored in overtime, off an assist by Ali Reed, to lift the eighth-seeded Bulldogs (9-5-5) past No. 7 Padua 4-3 in the Northeast 5 district final, the Beacon Journal reported. Reed scored twice, Anna Wells also scored, and Haddox and Liana Beadling added assists. Green plays Highland at 7 p.m. Nov. 3 at Streetsboro.
Revere continued the day of the road underdogs in Division III, beating No. 13 Howland 3-1 for the Region 5 district title. Addi Kapp scored two goals and added an assist for the eighth-seeded Minutemen (12-5-3), according to the Beacon Journal. Howland’s season ended at 13-6-1.
Not every Akron-area favorite survived. West Branch edged St. Vincent-St. Mary 1-0 in the Division IV, Northeast 4 final, holding the second-seeded Fighting Irish (16-5) to a single goal or less for the 13th time this season, the Beacon Journal reported. Brecksville shut out CVCA 4-0, North Royalton beat Twinsburg 2-1, and West Geauga outlasted Hoban 4-2, with Kate Weidt and Bailey Huckabee scoring for the Knights.
What we know — and what we’re still waiting on
What we know: six Akron-area girls teams — Hudson, Walsh Jesuit, Medina, Highland, Green and Revere — won district championships on Saturday, Oct. 31, and every one of them plays a regional semifinal on Tuesday, Nov. 3, according to the Akron Beacon Journal. Hudson, at 18-0, is the area’s last unbeaten team. What we’re still waiting on: official confirmation of the Walsh Jesuit–Medina semifinal site, which the Beacon Journal’s own reports listed in two different places, and the OHSAA’s final regional pairings for the boys’ semifinals on Nov. 4.
The girls’ tournament run is part of a busy championship week across Ohio soccer — NewsForce247 also covered five Cincinnati teams winning Division I boys district titles on Saturday, and the football postseason is rolling in parallel, including Ridgewood’s 49-6 playoff rout at Fairland.
What happens next: the regional semifinals on Tuesday night will cut the field to regional finalists, one win from the state semifinals. Hudson plays North Ridgeville (14-2-2) in a Region 5 semifinal at 7 p.m. Nov. 3 at Nordonia, and Revere’s winner’s bracket sends the Minutemen toward a matchup with Aurora (14-1-3) at Byers Field in Parma, according to the Beacon Journal. For six area teams, the season now comes down to one night.
