FAIRFIELD, Ohio — Cincinnati Mayor Aftab Pureval is expected to join hometown comedian Rajiv Satyal onstage Tuesday night, Oct. 27, at the Fairfield Community Arts Center, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer. Satyal posted on Facebook that Pureval “will join me onstage” for the Fairfield show, the Enquirer reported, sharing a photo of the two men standing next to each other.
Satyal’s show, titled “50 Things I’ve Learned at 50,” is scheduled for 7 p.m. Oct. 27 at the Community Arts Center, 411 Wessel Drive in Fairfield, with tickets listed at $20 to $40, the Enquirer reported. The Enquirer also reported that Satyal’s post did not specify how Pureval will be involved in the performance, and that a spokesperson for the city of Cincinnati did not immediately respond to the Enquirer’s request for comment.
For Satyal, the Fairfield date is a hometown performance. He is a stand-up comedian and host from Fairfield, according to the Enquirer, and BroadwayWorld has described him as born and raised in the Cincinnati suburb of Fairfield, where he once worked as a marketing executive for Procter & Gamble before leaving his corporate job in 2006 to pursue comedy full-time, according to BroadwayWorld.
Satyal has built an unusual resume for a Fairfield native. He is the only person to ever perform stand-up comedy on all seven continents, according to his website, as reported by the Enquirer. A Broadway Comedy Club listing for the same “50 Things I’ve Learned at 50” show says he has opened for Dave Chappelle, Hasan Minhaj and Jerry Seinfeld, has appeared on Netflix, Amazon Prime and NPR, and was the first comedian to perform an hour-long stand-up show in India.
The city of Fairfield’s event post for the show promises, in words quoted by the Enquirer, “a little bit of learning and a whole lot of laughter from the comedian who’s appeared on Netflix, Amazon Prime, and NPR.” The Broadway Comedy Club listing describes the show as a blend of stand-up, storytelling and five decades of observations on happiness, ambition, family, work, aging and what actually matters.
The mayor’s planned appearance adds a local-government twist to an arts-center comedy night, bringing Cincinnati’s mayor into a neighboring Butler County community’s venue for a hometown comedian’s milestone show. The Enquirer did not report whether Pureval will perform, speak briefly, or take part in another portion of the program, and that detail remained unannounced ahead of the 7 p.m. start.
Residents planning to attend should head to the Fairfield Community Arts Center at 411 Wessel Drive for the 7 p.m. Tuesday performance, with tickets listed by the Enquirer at $20 to $40. The show is a one-night Fairfield engagement for Satyal’s “50 Things I’ve Learned at 50,” and any further word on Pureval’s role was expected to come, if at all, from the stage itself on Tuesday night.
