High school football teams lined up on the field under stadium lights with a packed crowdA packed house under the lights on a Friday night in Ohio. Elgin hosts Hardin Northern Friday with a share of the NWCC title on the line, live on Friday Night Lights LIVE.

Everything the Elgin Comets have worked for this season comes down to one Friday night at home. Elgin (7-2, 6-1) hosts the Hardin Northern Polar Bears (3-6, 2-5) at 7 p.m. in the regular-season finale, and a win gives the Comets a share of the Northwest Central Conference championship — the program’s first league title in more than two decades. Friday Night Lights LIVE carries every snap, with pregame coverage starting at 6:45 p.m.

Elgin enters Week 10 locked in a three-way tie atop the NWCC with North Baltimore and Waynesfield-Goshen, all at 6-1 in league play. “This is something that hasn’t been done in 21 years,” Elgin coach Zack Winslow told the Marion Star this week. “If they win on Friday, regardless of what happens in Week 11 or 12 or beyond, they are in the history books as the first NWCC football league champion and the first Elgin football league championship in over two decades.”

It is also senior night in Elgin, and the Comets’ first home game in three weeks, played on the school’s new field that debuted earlier this season. Beyond the title share, a win strengthens Elgin’s playoff positioning as the program chases its fifth postseason trip since 2020.

Hardin Northern arrives with nothing to lose and a long memory. Two years ago, Elgin spoiled the Polar Bears’ shot at a playoff berth with a 32-28 Week 10 win, and Hardin Northern would like nothing more than to return the favor on the Comets’ title night. Elgin has won the last three meetings, including 30-8 a year ago, but the series has been tight — four meetings from 2018 to 2024 were decided by less than a touchdown.
