An 18-year-old woman was killed in a shooting early Tuesday inside a residence in Cincinnati’s North Fairmount neighborhood, and Cincinnati police homicide detectives are investigating. WXIX Fox 19 reported that officers responded about 1 a.m. to the area of Beekman Street and Baltimore Avenue on a report of someone shot in the head.
According to WXIX Fox 19, Cincinnati police said the shooting happened inside a residence and appears to have been accidental. The Cincinnati Police Department’s Homicide Unit was on the scene Tuesday morning as the investigation continued.
WXIX Fox 19 reported that officers were talking with one person who is assisting the investigation, and that police were searching for a person of interest. Neither report released a description of the person of interest, and police had not announced any arrest in the case as of Tuesday morning.
WCPO 9 News also reported the fatal shooting, saying one person was killed in a shooting overnight on Beekman Street in North Fairmount and that its newsroom was working to learn more information.
The woman’s name had not been released in either station’s reporting as of Tuesday morning. The two reports agreed on the central facts: one person was killed, the shooting happened overnight on Beekman Street in North Fairmount, and the investigation was still active.
North Fairmount is a residential neighborhood on Cincinnati’s west side, where Beekman Street and Baltimore Avenue meet in a stretch of homes. The shooting was reported in the early-morning hours of Election Day, and the area had no reported ongoing threat beyond the person of interest police were working to locate, according to the stations’ reports.
The death was the second fatal shooting reported in Cincinnati in three days. Early Sunday, 20-year-old Kameiro Blair-Martin was shot inside Memories Lounge on East Seventh Street downtown and died at a hospital, Cincinnati police said in coverage by the Cincinnati Enquirer and WXIX Fox 19. Police have not suggested any connection between the two cases.
What happens next will depend on the Homicide Unit’s investigation. Police have not said what led to the gunfire inside the home, whether the person of interest has been located, or when the victim’s name will be released. NewsForce247 will update this story as Cincinnati police release more information.
