Ohio State will take the field at Ohio Stadium on Saturday dressed head to toe in scarlet, after the university announced Friday afternoon that the Buckeyes will wear their all-scarlet “Scarlet Rush” uniforms against Oregon — the first time the look has come out since the 2024 College Football Playoff, and the first time ever with the famous Buckeye Stripes on the all-scarlet set. Eleven Warriors reported the Friday announcement, and Ducks Wire of the USA TODAY Network independently confirmed that the Buckeyes would break out the color-rush set for Saturday’s game.
The uniform reveal caps a week of teasing in Columbus. Ohio State shared photos on Tuesday of new scarlet and black accessories with the caption “A new look for the next one,” Eleven Warriors reported, and the program’s Friday announcement post — “Dress Code: Scarlet” — was quoted by Eleven Warriors in its report. Saturday’s 3:30 p.m. kickoff at the Horseshoe will be televised by CBS.
Saturday is also Ohio State’s designated “Scarlet the Shoe” game, the fan dress theme announced last week that asks the home crowd to match the team in scarlet. It is the fourth straight year for Scarlet the Shoe — following Texas in 2025, Nebraska in 2024 and Penn State in 2023 — but in each of those years Ohio State wore its traditional home uniforms, according to Eleven Warriors. This year, for the first time, the team on the field will be dressed the same way as the stands.
The all-scarlet look carries a short but high-profile history in Columbus. Ohio State first wore it against Penn State on Oct. 30, 2021, Eleven Warriors reported, and brought it back for the first round of the 2024 College Football Playoff against Tennessee — a win in the cold at Ohio Stadium that started a four-game run to the national championship. Saturday marks the look’s return after nearly two years on the shelf, with one change longtime fans will spot immediately: the Buckeye Stripes, the stripe pattern associated with Ohio State’s standard uniform, appear on the all-scarlet set for the first time, a detail confirmed by both Eleven Warriors and Ducks Wire.
It is only Ohio State’s second alternate uniform of this season. The Buckeyes wore their all-white “Sub Zero” uniforms for their October road game at Iowa, Eleven Warriors reported, making Saturday’s scarlet set the program’s home alternate for the year — and a fitting one for a stadium-wide color theme.
Oregon is dressing for the occasion, too. The Ducks announced on Wednesday night that they will wear their “Mummy” uniforms — a chrome and silver helmet, white jersey and black pants — a set Oregon Football introduced with the post “Mummy Duck. Game 9 uniform combo,” as reproduced by Eleven Warriors. Ducks Wire described the same combination of silver helmets, white jerseys and black pants, setting up a clean scarlet-versus-white contrast on national television.
What we know — and what we’re still waiting on
What we know: Ohio State announced the Scarlet Rush uniforms on Friday, Nov. 6, for Saturday’s 3:30 p.m. ET game against Oregon at Ohio Stadium on CBS, per Eleven Warriors and Ducks Wire. The game is the season’s Scarlet the Shoe promotion, Oregon counters with its chrome, white and black Mummy set, and this is the first all-scarlet appearance with Buckeye Stripes. What we’re still waiting on: the game itself. Saturday’s matchup has not been played, and no result exists yet — anything about who wins, and how the uniforms look under the lights, waits for Saturday afternoon in the Horseshoe.
The uniform news lands at the end of a busy Ohio State week on campus, one that has kept the athletic department in the headlines — from the Schottenstein Center’s orange-themed announcement tease to the gameday culture that surrounds a program whose marching band just took its one trip down Broadway. Saturday adds a stadium dressed entirely in one color to that list.
What happens next is simple and close: kickoff. Ohio State and Oregon meet at 3:30 p.m. ET Saturday at Ohio Stadium, with CBS carrying the game nationally. Fans heading to the Horseshoe are being asked, in the words of Ohio State Football’s Friday post as quoted by Eleven Warriors, to follow the dress code — scarlet.
