Erie County voters head to their polling places on Tuesday, November 3, after early in-person voting for the 2026 general election ended on Sunday, November 1, at the county Board of Elections office in Sandusky.

Early voting ran from October 6 through November 1 at the Board of Elections office, 2900 Columbus Avenue, Room 101, in Sandusky, according to the Erie County Board of Elections. The final early session was Sunday, November 1, from 1 to 5 p.m. On Election Day, polls across Ohio are open from 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., and voters cast ballots at their assigned precinct polling locations rather than at the board office.

Absentee ballots carry a hard deadline this year. Under the schedule published by the Ohio Secretary of State, non-military absentee ballots must be received by the board of elections by 7:30 p.m. on Election Day to be counted, and the Columbus Dispatch reported in its statewide drop-off roundup that the Erie County drop-off point is the board office at 2900 Columbus Avenue, Room 101, in Sandusky. Military and overseas ballots have until November 7.

At the top of the local ballot, Erie County voters are choosing a county commissioner for a full term commencing January 1, 2027, according to the official sample ballot produced by the Erie County Board of Elections, along with judgeships including a seat on the Erie County Court of Common Pleas. The ballot also carries the statewide races and statewide Issue 3, the proposed constitutional amendment to require voters to present photo identification in order to vote.

County voters are also deciding Issue 6, a proposed renewal tax levy for the benefit of Erie County for the operation of community addiction services providers and community mental health services providers, and for addiction and mental health facilities, according to the ballot language on the board’s sample ballot. Board of elections minutes from June 2026 also record the board’s approval of November ballot issues including the Vermilion Local School District levy and the Erie County General Health District levy.

The election is also a holiday for some local offices: the City of Sandusky announced on Monday that city offices will be closed Tuesday, November 3, for Election Day, and directed voters to the Erie County Board of Elections for voting information, according to the city’s notice. Voters with questions can reach the board at 419-627-7601.

Voters who have not yet returned an absentee ballot are advised by state officials to deliver it in person to the board office by 7:30 p.m. Tuesday rather than risk mail delays. Polls close at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, and anyone in line at closing time is entitled to vote. Unofficial results will be reported by the Erie County Board of Elections after the polls close, with official canvass and certification to follow in the days after the election.
