Ohio is in the middle of a bright, dry Wednesday, Oct. 28, with sunshine statewide by late morning and temperatures climbing well above normal for late October, according to the National Weather Service. Late-morning readings were in the upper 50s to low 60s under sunny skies, including 58 degrees in Columbus, 62 in Cleveland and 63 in Wilmington. The Weather Service has no watches, warnings or advisories in effect anywhere in Ohio, and high pressure spread across the eastern United States is keeping the state rain-free through the rest of today.
In northwest Ohio, Toledo stays sunny this afternoon with a high near 74 and a southwest wind around 5 mph, according to the National Weather Service. In northeast Ohio, Cleveland is sunny near 72 with a light west wind around 5 mph, Youngstown is sunny near 72 on a south wind around 6 mph, and Akron follows the same pattern with sunshine and a high in the low to mid-70s. Rain chances sit at or near zero across the north, and southerly flow returning behind the high is what pushes readings 10 to 15 degrees above average, the Weather Service office in Cleveland said in its forecast discussion.
Central Ohio spends the rest of today mostly sunny, with Columbus reaching near 76 degrees on a light south wind, according to the National Weather Service. The southwest is again the warmest corner of the state: Dayton is sunny near 75 and Cincinnati is sunny near 77, the highest reading in Ohio today, with light southwest winds and no rain expected in either metro through sunset.
Southeast Ohio shares the same dry, bright afternoon, with Athens mostly sunny near 73 on a light south wind around 3 mph, according to the National Weather Service. The hill country from Marietta to Portsmouth stays in the low to mid-70s with precipitation chances near zero — another good day for harvest work, road projects and fall outings from Lake Erie to the Ohio River, with no weather-related travel problems expected anywhere in the state.
Tonight turns clear in every region, according to the National Weather Service, with overnight lows of 54 degrees in Cleveland, 51 in Toledo and 49 in Columbus, Dayton and Cincinnati, while Athens and Youngstown run coolest near 46. Youngstown also picks up patchy fog late tonight after midnight, so early Thursday drivers in the Mahoning Valley should allow for pockets of reduced visibility. Winds stay light from the south overnight and rain chances remain at or near zero statewide.
Thursday is the warmest day of the stretch, with sunshine statewide and highs near 78 degrees in Toledo, Columbus and Cincinnati, 76 in Dayton, 75 in Cleveland and 74 in Athens and Youngstown, according to the National Weather Service. Southwest winds pick up to 8 to 13 mph along Lake Erie. Thursday night stays mostly clear for most of Ohio, with lows near 50 to 55, though Cleveland picks up a slight chance of rain showers as a cold front passes to the north.
Friday stays sunny but turns cooler in the north behind that front — near 62 degrees in Cleveland, 65 in Dayton and 66 in Columbus and Youngstown — while southern Ohio holds warmer, near 72 in Athens and 75 in Cincinnati, according to the National Weather Service. Halloween on Saturday turns mostly cloudy with highs in the mid-60s to low 70s, and the current outlook keeps the day dry for most of Ohio before rain chances return late Saturday night into Sunday. Until then, Ohio’s run of sunny, well-above-normal fall weather continues with no hazardous weather expected.
