BOWLING GREEN, Ohio — The Bowling Green State University men’s soccer team will play its final regular-season home game on Wednesday, Oct. 28, hosting Wilmington at Cochrane Stadium at 7 p.m., according to BGSU Athletics.

The Falcons enter the match in the midst of a six-game winning streak and are coming off a win against Belmont, BGSU Athletics reported. Bowling Green sits atop the standings in the Missouri Valley Conference as the regular season winds down.

Wednesday’s match will also include a recognition for Leon “Bud” Lewis, according to BGSU Athletics. Lewis is a member of the BGSU Athletics Hall of Fame, was co-captain in 1974 under Mickey Cochrane, and also served 43 years as coach at Wilmington College, finishing his tenure as one of the winningest coaches in NCAA men’s soccer history, the university said.

The recognition ties the two programs together: Lewis’s playing history is at Bowling Green, while his long coaching career was at Wilmington, the visiting team on Wednesday night.

BGSU Athletics listed watch and live-stats coverage for the 7 p.m. match at Cochrane Stadium. A win would extend the Falcons’ winning streak to seven heading into the final stretch of the regular season.

The home week at Bowling Green continues on Sunday, Nov. 1, when the BGSU women’s soccer team returns to Cochrane Stadium to face Ohio at 1 p.m. in a Mid-American Conference matchup, according to BGSU Athletics. The women’s team beat Buffalo 2-0 in its most recent home game.

That Sunday match will be the regular-season finale for the Bowling Green women, with tournament implications on the line against the Bobcats, the university said. First, though, the men’s team gets its home finale on Wednesday night under the lights at Cochrane.

The venue adds meaning to the Lewis recognition. Cochrane Stadium is named for Mickey Cochrane, the coach under whom Lewis co-captained the Falcons in 1974, according to BGSU Athletics — so Wednesday’s ceremony honors a Bowling Green player in the stadium that bears his coach’s name, with Lewis’s longtime Wilmington program on the opposite bench.
