The Montgomery County Coroner’s Office has identified the man killed in a Trotwood shooting earlier this month as Michael Steele, 24, according to reports released Monday, Oct. 26.
Steele died at the scene of the shooting, the coroner’s office said. Crews responded to reports of a shooting in the 900 block of Miller Avenue in Trotwood, where Steele was found. One other person was injured in the same shooting, according to News Center 7’s reporting on the case.
The identification, reported Monday by the Dayton Daily News and WHIO, is the first official naming of the victim since the shooting. Authorities have not released additional details about the circumstances of the gunfire or about the condition of the second person who was hurt.
No arrest in the case had been announced as of Monday. Trotwood police have not said publicly whether they are looking for a specific suspect, and the investigation remains open.
Miller Avenue is a residential street in Trotwood, the Montgomery County city northwest of Dayton. Neighbors in the area have dealt with the shooting’s aftermath for weeks while waiting for officials to release the victim’s name, a step that follows notification of the family under the coroner’s standard process.
Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to contact Trotwood police. Tips in Montgomery County cases can also be shared with regional crime-stopper programs, which accept anonymous information.
The coroner’s office identification closes one open question in the case, but the central ones — who fired the shots and why — remain unanswered as detectives continue their work. NewsForce247 will update this story if police release further information.
