Jefferson County voters have entered the final full week of early voting for the November 3 general election, with extended hours now in effect at the Jefferson County Board of Elections, 500 Market Street, Suite 1, in Steubenville. Early in-person voting runs through Sunday, November 1, and the board is urging voters who want to avoid Election Day lines to use the longer final-week schedule.
Final-week hours are the longest of the early-voting period. The board office is open Monday, October 26, from 7:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.; Tuesday, October 27, from 7:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.; Wednesday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.; Saturday, October 31, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.; and Sunday, November 1, from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., when early in-person voting ends.
Tuesday also carries a key deadline for voting by mail. Absentee ballot applications must be received by the board no later than Tuesday, October 27, at 8:30 p.m. Voters can request an application by calling the board office, or print one and mail it to the board at 500 Market St., Suite 1, Steubenville, OH 43952.
All absentee ballots must be received by the board by 7:30 p.m. on Election Day, Tuesday, November 3, to be counted on election night. With the mail deadline this close, voters who still hold an absentee ballot may want to return it in person to the board office rather than risk a late delivery.
Jefferson County ballots for the general election include the statewide offices, the state representative race for the 96th District, judgeships for the Seventh District Court of Appeals and the Jefferson County Court of Common Pleas, and the local questions and issues filed for this election. Voters can preview their specific sample ballot through the board of elections voter lookup before heading to vote.
Early voting in Ohio began October 6, following the October 5 voter registration deadline, and military and overseas absentee voting began September 18. The Jefferson County board’s regular office hours are 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on weekdays, but the state-set early-voting schedule above governs the early vote center this week.
On Election Day, Tuesday, November 3, polls across Jefferson County and Ohio are open from 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Voters who wait until Election Day must vote at their assigned polling location — the board office serves as the early vote center only and is not an Election Day polling place.
Voters with questions can reach the Jefferson County Board of Elections at 740-283-8522. Board staff can confirm registration status, polling locations and sample ballots ahead of the November 3 vote.
