Sandusky-based Civista Bancshares has added the leader of the region’s largest health system to its board of directors, announcing on Friday, October 23, that Jeremy Normington-Slay has joined the boards of Civista Bancshares and Civista Bank, effective October 21. Normington-Slay is president and chief executive officer of Firelands Health, which is also headquartered in Sandusky.
The appointment brings a healthcare perspective to the board of the $4.3 billion financial holding company. Firelands Health includes Firelands Regional Medical Center in Sandusky, The Bellevue Hospital in Bellevue and Firelands Physician Group, and Normington-Slay leads an organization with approximately 2,500 employees and more than 300 medical staff members serving communities throughout the region.
Civista board chairman Dennis G. Shaffer said Normington-Slay brings significant executive leadership experience and a strong understanding of the communities Civista serves. Shaffer said his experience leading complex organizations, coupled with a commitment to community service, will complement the experience and capabilities of the board, and he said the company is pleased to welcome him.
Normington-Slay said he is honored to join the board and contribute to an organization with a strong history of serving its customers and communities. He noted that Civista and Firelands Health share deep roots in the region, and said he looks forward to bringing his perspective and experience to the board as Civista continues to grow and create value for its shareholders, customers and communities.
Before leading Firelands Health, Normington-Slay served with Ascension Healthcare in Wisconsin, including as regional president overseeing hospitals in that organization’s North Central Region. Earlier in his career, he held executive leadership positions with several independent hospitals, giving him experience across both large systems and stand-alone facilities.
His training combines clinical care and management. He earned a Doctor of Physical Therapy degree from Concordia University Wisconsin and a Master of Business Administration from Plymouth State University, and he is a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives. He has also served on boards supporting the arts, economic development and community service organizations, and volunteers with programs assisting individuals and families in need.
Civista Bank, the company’s primary subsidiary, was founded in 1884 and provides full-service banking, commercial lending, mortgage and wealth management services. It operates 44 locations across Ohio, southeastern Indiana and northern Kentucky, and also offers commercial equipment leasing nationwide through its Civista Leasing and Finance Division. Civista Bancshares shares trade on the NASDAQ Capital Market under the symbol CIVB.
