The tennis and pickleball courts at Yoctangee Park in Chillicothe were closed on Thursday and Friday, October 22-23, for final paint touchups, the city announced.

According to the city, the courts are set to reopen on Saturday, October 24, once the touchup work is complete.

The courts are part of a broader renovation at Yoctangee Park that has included new dedicated pickleball courts and resurfaced tennis courts, funded in part through an Appalachian Community Grant.

The city held a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the renovated courts on October 5, marking the reopening of the upgraded facilities earlier this fall.

The park project has run alongside other recent upgrades at Yoctangee Park, including new turf, sidewalks and flagpoles near the Armory, and ongoing work on the park’s amphitheater and pavilion.

City information on the closure was shared in a public post ahead of the two-day shutdown, giving regular court users notice to plan around the work.

For Chillicothe players, the short closure is presented as the final step in the court renovation, rather than a new construction phase, with play expected to resume on the weekend.

Residents can check city updates for any change to the October 24 reopening date if weather or paint work affects the schedule.

Yoctangee Park is one of Chillicothe’s central public recreation spaces, and the courts have drawn both tennis players and a growing pickleball community. Dedicated pickleball courts were a key part of the renovation, reflecting the sport’s growth among local players in recent years.

Because the closure covered a Thursday and Friday, weekday league and casual players were the most directly affected, while the planned Saturday reopening preserves weekend play. The city presented the paint touchups as finishing work on courts that had already been resurfaced and formally reopened earlier in October.
