The tennis and pickleball courts at Yoctangee Park in Chillicothe will close for two days this week for final paint touchups, the city of Chillicothe announced. The courts will be closed Thursday and Friday, Oct. 22-23, and are set to reopen Saturday, Oct. 24, according to the city.

The closure is a short, planned step in a larger renovation of the courts. The city held a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the renovated courts on Oct. 5, marking the completion of the main phase of the work. The two-day closure this week is for final paint touchups on the new surfaces, after which the courts reopen for regular use on Saturday.

Players who use the courts for weekday matches, practices or open play will need to adjust their plans for Thursday and Friday. No alternate court locations were announced in the city’s notice, which was limited to the Oct. 22-23 closure and the Oct. 24 reopening date.

The court work is one piece of a broader set of upgrades under way at Yoctangee Park, the city’s main park. Recent work alongside the courts has included new turf, sidewalks and flagpoles near the Armory, and ongoing work on the park’s amphitheater and pavilion, according to the report.

Pickleball has been a focus of the park’s renovation, with dedicated courts added for the sport alongside the resurfaced tennis courts. The Appalachian Community Grant helped fund the court portion of the project, according to the report.
