Prologis has laid out plans for a four-building data center campus near Trenton in Butler County, detailing the project known as Project Mila at a public meeting this week. The proposal would place four large single-story buildings and an on-site substation on land the company has acquired south of downtown Trenton.

Prologis acquired 141 acres in Butler County from the City of Trenton for $7.7 million in October. The site sits around a mile south of downtown Trenton in the Trenton Industrial Park, off Woodsdale Road and east of Molson Coors’ Trenton Brewery. That location puts the proposed campus inside an established industrial area rather than on undeveloped residential land.

Under the plans presented, each of the four buildings would cover 220,000 square feet and stand a single story tall. An on-site substation is also part of the proposal, reflecting the heavy electrical service a data center campus requires. Together, the four buildings and the substation form the full Project Mila footprint that city officials are now reviewing.

Work at the site has begun only at the earliest stage. Ground preparation works have started, but the development has yet to receive full city approval. If the project advances, construction on the first building could start later this year, aimed at a 2028 launch, with all four buildings complete by 2029 under the timeline Prologis described.

At the meeting, Prologis told those present it would pay the costs to upgrade area infrastructure connected to the project. For its part, the City of Trenton said staff are continuing to review the submission for compliance with city codes. The site lies in the city’s Industrial General zoning district, designated IG, and that zoning forms part of the framework for the review now underway.

Water use is one of the figures drawing attention. The project is expected to use approximately 15 million gallons of water annually, a number the city noted remains subject to ongoing review. The plans have also drawn organized opposition: a Change.org petition against the proposals had gathered 85 signatures at the time of reporting.

Project Mila is not the only data center proposal Butler County has seen. Elsewhere in the county, Logistix received planning approval in Hamilton in 2024 for a data center project. What happens next for the Trenton campus rests with the city’s continuing code review, since full approval has not yet been granted. Residents watching the 2028 and 2029 timeline will be looking for the outcome of that review before construction on the first building can begin.
