Early in-person voting for the Nov. 3 general election enters its third week in Adams County on Monday, with the Adams County Board of Elections in West Union open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. each weekday through Friday, Oct. 23. The board’s office is at 923 Sunrise Ave., Room 101, in West Union, according to the Ohio Secretary of State’s early voting directory.
This is a second look at Adams County in NewsForce247’s 88-county election coverage, following the county’s first-pass ballot preview on Oct. 18. The update is about the mechanics of voting itself: where to go, when the office is open, and the deadlines that now govern mail ballots under Ohio law.
Early voting hours are set statewide and do not vary by county. After this week, the West Union office will also be open Saturday, Oct. 24, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., then shifts to longer days in the final week: 7:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Oct. 26 and Oct. 28-30, 7:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Oct. 27, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 31, and 1 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 1. There is no early voting on Monday, Nov. 2.
Voters should remember that an early ballot is cast at the board of elections office, not at the precinct listed on their voter card. That precinct polling place opens only on Election Day, Tuesday, Nov. 3, from 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Anyone still in line when an early session is scheduled to end is allowed to vote.
Mail voting carries a hard deadline this year. Under Senate Bill 293, signed by Gov. Mike DeWine in December 2025, absentee ballots must arrive at the board by the close of polls on Election Day, 7:30 p.m. on Nov. 3, to be counted, with an exception for military and overseas voters. The former four-day grace period after Election Day no longer applies.
Absentee ballot applications must be received by the board by 8:30 p.m. on Oct. 27. Because a mailed ballot that arrives late cannot be counted, election officials urge Adams County voters using the mail to send ballots back early or return them in person to the board office in West Union.
Adams County voters who have not yet cast a ballot can preview their sample ballot through the Ohio Secretary of State’s voter tools before heading to West Union. Polls on Election Day, Nov. 3, are open from 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., and voters should bring a valid photo ID.
