WOODSFIELD — Early in-person voting is under way in Monroe County ahead of the Tuesday, Nov. 3 general election, and voters in this Appalachian Ohio River county will fill a slate of county offices, pick a common pleas judge and weigh in on congressional and Statehouse races.
At the courthouse, Republican Mitchell Schumacher is the candidate for county commissioner for the term beginning in January. Republican Grant Reusser is the candidate for county auditor, and Republican Elizabeth Beachy is the candidate for an unexpired term as county treasurer.
Judicial races are led by Republican Chelsea M. Bone, the candidate for judge of the common pleas court’s juvenile and probate division. Monroe County also votes in the 7th District Court of Appeals, where one seat pairs Republican Mark Anthony Hanni against Democrat Katherine Rudzik, and Republican Molly K. Johnson is a candidate for the district’s other seat on this year’s ballot.
In the district races, Republican U.S. Rep. Troy Balderson faces Democrat Jerrad Christian in the 12th Congressional District, and Republican Ron Ferguson is the candidate for state representative in the 96th Ohio House District, which covers Monroe County’s Statehouse representation.
Township, village and school questions vary by precinct across the county’s hills and river communities, and the Monroe County Board of Elections posts the early-voting schedule and can provide each voter with the exact ballot for their precinct before they cast it, whether they vote early, by mail or on Election Day.
Statewide, Monroe County voters will help choose Ohio’s next governor between Republicans Vivek Ramaswamy and Robert A. McColley and Democrats Amy Acton and David Pepper, and decide the U.S. Senate race for an unexpired term between Republican Jon Husted and Democrat Sherrod Brown. Also on every Ohio ballot are races for attorney general, auditor, secretary of state and treasurer, two Ohio Supreme Court seats, and State Issue 3, a proposed constitutional amendment that would require voters to present photo identification in order to vote.

Main St., Suite 12, in Woodsfield, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays through Oct. 23, then 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 24; 7:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 26; 7:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 27, which is also the deadline to request an absentee ballot; 7:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Oct. 28 through 30; 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 31; and 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 1.
