AKRON — Eastern Michigan outlasted the University of Akron 25-23 in a nail-biting Mid-American Conference showdown at InfoCision Stadium on Saturday, Oct. 10, a game decided in the final moments after a back-and-forth second half.
Eastern Michigan kicker Rudy Kessinger was the difference-maker, drilling four field goals to keep the Eagles ahead through the tightest stretches of the afternoon. Akron’s offense matched Eastern stride for stride, keeping the Zips within striking distance until the final whistle, but the home side could not find the points it needed to flip the result in front of its own fans.
The loss is a tough one for Akron, which battled hard in front of the home crowd only to come up two points short in a conference game that could carry real weight in the MAC race. Both programs now turn their attention to the next weekend of league play as the conference schedule tightens up in mid-October.
Eastern Michigan heads home with a statement road win, while the Zips will regroup in Akron looking to bounce back and keep their own conference hopes alive.
