ST. LOUIS — Jonatan Berggren broke a 3-3 tie at 9:33 of the third period Saturday night, lifting the St. Louis Blues past the Columbus Blue Jackets 5-3 at Enterprise Center and snapping St. Louis’ three-game skid. The Blue Jackets, playing the second half of a back-to-back, faded after a strong start and fell to 2-2-0 on the young season.
Berggren pounced on a rebound in tight after Colton Parayko threw the puck to the net during a delayed penalty, giving the Blues (2-2-1) a 4-3 lead they would not surrender. Jimmy Snuggerud scored twice and Dylan Holloway added three assists for St. Louis, while Jordan Binnington made 20 saves.
Valeri Nichushkin, Kent Johnson and Cole Sillinger scored for Columbus, and goaltender Jet Greaves stopped 22 shots. The Jackets had won 3-2 in a shootout over the Pittsburgh Penguins at home Friday night but could not sustain the momentum on consecutive nights.
“We came out pretty strong on a back-to-back and got away from our game,” forward Sean Monahan said after the loss. “We were not at our best, and we’ve got to find a way to keep our foot on the gas, keep that pace and keep pushing with the lead we had.”
