Central Ohio is in for a soggy weekend as the remnants of Hurricane Isaias push up through the Ohio Valley. The National Weather Service in Wilmington says the Columbus area could see one to two inches of rain between Saturday evening and 11 a.m. Sunday, with showers and possibly a thunderstorm likely tonight.
Isaias made landfall as a major hurricane near Destin, Florida, on Friday night and has been weakening as it tracks north and northeast. By Saturday morning the system was moving through Alabama toward the Tennessee and Ohio river valleys, still carrying risks of high winds, heavy rain and flash flooding, according to the National Hurricane Center.
Columbus faces a 100 percent chance of rain Saturday night with a quarter to a half-inch possible overnight, and wind gusts up to 26 mph. A 90 percent shower chance continues into Sunday with highs near 74 degrees. Ohio State fans heading to the 4:15 p.m. homecoming kickoff against Maryland should expect mostly cloudy skies and gusty winds, with rain likely after the game wraps.
The pattern breaks early next week — Monday’s forecast calls for mostly sunny skies and a high near 80 degrees.
